Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the regulation issued by the Obama administration was too vague. "This is essentially a national gun ban list". Earlier this month the House bill passed nearly entirely along party lines. The American Civil Liberties Union has joined with the NRA in fighting the regulation, as has an independent federal agency charged with advising the president and Congress on government policy. NSW Rural Fire Service commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons says "the conditions for Sunday are the worst possible conditions, they are catastrophic - we haven't seen this in NSW to this extent ever". The temperature in one Sydney suburb, Penrith, was forecast to reach 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit) on Saturday, it said.
