They were on their way to Northern Elementary, when a passenger vehicle ran a stop sign and hit the side of the bus. She says one is in critical condition and others with less serious injuries are being evaluated. The driver of the bus was also identified Thursday as 47-year-old Patrick Russell Stout of Bemidji. Dr. Fakhruddin Attar , 53, and his wife, Faida Attar, 50, of Livonia, were arrested Friday morning, the Justice Department said. Dr. Nagarwala's lawyer says the doctor performed a religious procedure by removing tissue from the girl. It's the first time someone has been charged with violating a US ban on genital mutilation. Prosecutors said she performed the procedure on at least three MI girls but Nagarwala has not been charged in connection with those cases amid an ongoing investigation. (more...)
