Researchers claim to find a way to infiltrate WhatsApp Group chats

Researchers claim Whats App group chats vulnerable company denies

In short, anyone who has control of a WhatsApp server could effortlessly insert new people into a private group.

WhatsApp Messenger, which has made our lives easier and connected people like never before seems to be making headlines yet again.

WhatsApp is known as one of the most secure messaging apps that uses end-to-end encryption to make conversations between people absolutely private.

Paul Rösler, one of the researchers said, "The confidentiality of the group is broken as soon as the uninvited member can obtain all the new messages and read them".

The research group turned its attention to messaging tools Signal, WhatsApp, and Threema, but it was only Facebook's WhatsApp that gave cause for concern.

We've looked at this issue carefully.

The other participants will get a notification about a new user joining the group, but they have no way of knowing whether the new member was invited by the administrator (s). We built WhatsApp so group messages can not be sent to a hidden user.

To me, this article reads as a better example of the problems with the security industry and the way security research is done today, because I think the lesson to anyone watching is clear: don't build security into your products, because that makes you a target for researchers, even if you make the right decisions, and regardless of whether their research is practically important or not.

MoneyGram shares jump after company says it'll test Ripple's digital coins
Garlinghouse said: "The inefficiencies of global payments don't just affect banks, they also affect institutions like MoneyGram ". Ripple's transaction fees still remain fractions of a penny, while Bitcoin fees are approximately $30 per transaction.

This is a big problem, because WhatsApp prides itself on end-to-end encryption for its messages.

The researchers also spoke about the end-to-end encryption which was introduced by WhatsApp a couple of years ago.

Have you ever been bombarded with hundreds of notifications from a WhatsApp group, and chose not to read any simply because there were tons of messages and a lot of them did not seem to matter to you?

The researchers explained that since the attacker has control of the WhatsApp server, he/she could even manipulate the server to block out any messages in the group.

Open Whisper Systems, the creators of Signal, told Wired that they are now redesigning how Signal handles group messaging, but did not share any more than that.

'The clear notifications and multiple ways of checking who is in your group prevents silent eavesdropping, ' Mr Stamos wrote on Twitter.

Hackers and spies could secretly eavesdrop on your private WhatsApp conversations, security researchers have claimed.

Alex Stamos, who heads up security at Facebook, said: "There is no secret way into WhatsApp group chats". However, in case he does not notice, the group is compromised. This essentially meant that messages you send to a contact would be encrypted and then decrypted by the recipient's phone. It will now allow user to demote admin without removing him/her from the group chat. But researchers have also shown that this hacker could restrict group messages, alerts, etc once they are successfully added to the group.
