Mystery around USA military's secret satellite launch by SpaceX deepens

SpaceX denies losing spy satellite

This could either indicate that there is nothing to add in addition to the new satellite entry, or that the Zuma satellite is no longer in orbit.

According to Wired Magazine, Northrop Grumman supplied the adapter fitting connecting the Zuma payload with the Falcon 9 rocket.

She said work to ready SpaceX's next launches remained on schedule, with the first hold-down firing of the company's new Falcon Heavy rocket planned this week at Kennedy Space Center's pad 39A. The last Corporation in the launch previously collaborated with the Alliance ULA (United Launch Alliance), a joint venture of Boeing and Lockheed Martin, not SpaceX.

"They know the Falcon 9 well", said Larson, who formerly worked at SpaceX and was a senior advisor for space and innovation in the Obama administration.

A launch date for the maiden Falcon Heavy test flight has not been officially scheduled, but it could occur by the end of January.

SpaceX president and chief operating officer Gwynne Shotwell weighed in on the mystery in a statement emailed to Gizmodo. However, SpaceX chose to delay the launch to deal with some issues regarding the payload fairing (nose cone).

The satellite for the secret mission was built by Northrop Grumman Corp.

US Trade Rep Blasts Canada WTO Complaint About US Duties
Trying to get as much as possible from the process by using all political and legal means available is simply part of the process. Chapter 19 allows the parties to bypass the national judicial system to challenge countervailing and anti-dumping duties.

"We have chose to stand down and take a closer look at data from recent fairing testing for another customer", said SpaceX communications director John Taylor at the time. Currently, SpaceX is facing fierce competition from ULA, a launch provider operated by Boeing and Lockheed Martin, both of which have long relationships with various elements of the US government.

While the authorities are refraining from discussing the fate of Zuma mission, SpaceX is planning on increasing the feasibility of the rockets to make it reusable like airplanes which can significantly decrease the cost incurred during any mission.

The GovSat 1 satellite is set to launch on the next Falcon 9 rocket mission. It was so shrouded in secrecy that the sponsoring government agency was not even identified, as is usually the case.

If the separation system was to blame for Zuma's rumored demise, the malfunction could have been under the responsibility of Northrop Grumman, not SpaceX.

A strong showing on Falcon Heavy's first outing will enhance the perception of SpaceX's capabilities and will also contribute to the view of its market value, Christensen said. There is no on-the-record confirmation of the success or failure of the mission.

SpaceX has launched national security payloads in the past, including a spy satellite for the National Reconnaissance Office, and an X-37B space plane for the US Air Force.
