Senate bill to preserve net neutrality wins first GOP endorsement

Ed Markey on Twitter:

Senator Brian Schatz a Democrat from Hawaii has said he's hopeful that a new generation of voters who care about the internet will see net neutrality as their defining issue, much like members of the National Rifle Association, who support the Second Amendment. But under the regular rules of the House, there is a mechanism allowing the discharge of a bill from committee along similar procedural lines as the CRA allows in the Senate.

It's not known exactly what tack that legal challenge will take, but there is a good likelihood of it succeeding if the history of net neutrality regulations is anything to go by.

In a tweet earlier today, Sen.

"Senator Collins does not support the FCC's recent decision to repeal net neutrality rules, and she will support Senator Markey's legislation that would overturn the FCC's vote", a spokeswoman, Annie Clark, said in a statement to The Hill.

A few weeks the FCC announced that they will move the internet from a Title II to a Title I service.

Unfortunately, as a press conference held on Tuesday morning in Washington DC made plain, political support for the measure is nearly entirely thanks to the fact that Democrats feel they can use it to win votes in the midterm elections in November this year.

Beamer, Brown highlight 2018 College Football Hall of Fame class
Beamer's 280 career victories rank 6th in FBS history and are the 13th most by a college football coach at any NCAA division. Beamer took over the Virginia Tech program in 1987 and led the Hokies to a BCS championship game appearance in 1999.

A Senate bill that would stop the Federal Communications Commission's effort to repeal net neutrality just won its first Republican backer on Tuesday, with Sen.

With the 30 votes, the CRA resolution will receive a full vote in the Senate. Even if a majority of the Senate voted to reverse the FCC's decision and reinstate the rules, it still would need a majority of the House, as well as President Donald Trump's signature.

Still, Free Press and others are pushing forward, noting the widespread popularity of the net-neutrality rules.

A technology company trade group says it will be participating in looming lawsuits against the FCC for repealing net neutrality. "The Congressional Review Act gives Congress the power to reverse that corrupt and illegitimate decision and restore the basic protections that enable free expression, creativity, and innovation online".

The internet companies likely would become involved in a lawsuit threatened by almost half of the Attorneys General of the United States, led by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

Despite the apparent public sentiment in favor of net neutrality, observers doubt whether the Republican-controlled Congress will pass Markey's bill.
