China's Huawei hit by last minute collapse of AT&T phone distribution deal

Source: Verizon also under pressure to cancel upcoming Huawei phone launch

"US consumers need a better choice, and as a leader in technology and innovation, Huawei is prepared to fill this need", the company said in a statement provided to Reuters.

Rumors have been brewing for some time now that Chinese phone maker Huawei will officially make its Mate 10 Pro flagship available in the United States through USA carriers.

The first-of-its-kind Kirin 970 processor in the built-in world of the Mate 10 Pro delivers advanced technological features - automated learning and in-depth learning - allowing the phone to learn and understand the user's behavior every day. This follows closely on news that AT&T would cancel its own launch of the Mate 10 Pro for similar reasons. The award will be presented during the CES show in Las Vegas from 9 to 12 January 2018. The company has repeatedly confirmed on their US social media accounts that the new Mate smartphone would be unveiled on January 9.

So far there is no sign that Huawei is trying to strike a handset sales deal with any of the other major USA mobile carriers, such as T-Mobile, Verizon or Sprint.

For many consumers it can be simpler to buy their smartphones directly from their mobile carriers where the handsets can be set up with a SIM card, data transfer services and related application services that make it easier to switch to a new phone brand. This means that the AT&T and Huawei deal was likely still in place leading immediately into CES.

Tottenham ready to offer Kane, Alderweireld improved contracts
Wimbledon had proved stubborn opposition until a Moussa Sissoko cross found Kane who slid in to prod the ball home. The English-striker has 24 goals in all competitions this season and he is averaging a goal every 91 minutes.

According to The Information, Huawei's smartphone deal with AT&T was killed by "political pressure".

But the collapse of the deal with AT&T, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, will mean that Huawei will likely struggle to make a hit of its smartphones there as a US mobile carrier would typically promote the products as well as provide subsidies and special package deals.

For those unfamiliar with what happened with AT&T, a report yesterday from the Wall Street Journal revealed that talks between the two companies had ceased.

Sure, it sold phones unlocked through online retailers, but the only way to sell a real number of phones is via carrier partnerships. The Dec. 20 letter, reviewed by The Information, cited an intelligence committee report on the Chinese firm's alleged ties to the Communist Party and China's intelligence and security services.
