Twitter Just Explained Why It Won't Ban Donald Trump

A 45-pound briefcase known as the nuclear football accompanies President Donald Trump wherever he goes. It is carried at all times by one of five military aides representing each branch of the U.S. armed forces

Time after time, Donald Trump has attacked the media, politicians, used his undeserved prestige to sell products, act as the official TV guide for Fox News and, oh yeah, threatened nuclear warfare with North Korea.

Reaffirming its somewhat unclear terms of service, Twitter said that world leaders are effectively above being blocked from the service because their tweets are "important information people should be able to see and debate". Those rules prohibit "specific threats of violence", which the company defines as "explicit statements of one's intent to kill or inflict serious physical harm against another person".

Twitter said it views its role as a platform for global, public conversation.

"Blocking a world leader from Twitter or removing their controversial Tweets, would hide important information people should be able to see and debate", the company wrote in a blogpost published Friday. The company added that removing their tweets "would also not silence that leader, but it would certainly hamper necessary discussion around their words and actions".

On Tuesday, the US president Tweeted about his "nuclear button", saying his is "a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!" The company told the New York Times that the deletions were due to the United States government's imposition of economic sanctions on Kadyrov, but other world leaders named on USA sanctions lists, such as the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, and Syria's Bashar al-Assad, have not been banned from Facebook.

The image appears to confirm a couple of earlier leaks, revealing the Galaxy S9 will come with single camera setup on the rear. OnePlus 6 will reportedly have fingerprint sensor below the display, and will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 platform.

"Some activists said Twitter should have banned Trump and one group projected images on the company's headquarters with a message "@jack is #complicit", a reference to chief executive Jack Dorsey and "Ban @realDonaldTrump".

"Does "increasing the risk of nuclear war" violate the Twitter terms of service?" Following the president's retweeting of violent videos, Twitter initially responded to inquiries as to why those were allowed to remain up by saying some videos can if they are newsworthy or of public interest.

Sure enough, multiple users said they reported Trump for abusive behavior on Tuesday after the nuclear button tweet only to receive prompt responses from Twitter that "there was no violation of the Twitter Rules".

In a December op-ed written with Representative David Price (D-N.C.), she argued that Trump consistently falls "short of the mature judgment and discerning decision-making required of the leader of the free world", and that Congress should work to take on more diplomatic responsibility.

There have been repeated calls for Twitter to ban the USA president, who regularly uses the platform to attack his critics.
