Hot air balloon crash in Egypt kills 1, injures 19 tourists

A hot air balloon carrying foreign tourists over the southern Egyptian city of Luxor has crash-landed killing one passenger and injuring 12 others. The crash which happened on Friday is thought to have been caused by bad weather conditions which blew

Sharif Wadie, the assistant health minister in charge of emergency services, told AFP there were no other casualties but did not elaborate on the extent of the passengers' injuries.

The balloon was travelling over the ancient city when it was forced off course and into a mountainous area by strong winds.

The injured are being treated at Luxor International Hospital.

Twenty people had been on board, it said, adding that weather conditions had conformed to flight standards.

Luxor has witnessed hot air balloon accidents in past years.

Anti-triple talaq bill in RS tomorrow
Most parties are against the provision for jailing offenders - they say they don't want a civil matter to be criminalised. It would be tough for the government in the Upper House to pass the bill in its present form as BJP is in minority here.

The government had previously suspended the rides after two crashes in four years.

About 20 people were on board when the accident occurred on Friday.

In a similar incident in 2013, 19 tourists from Europe and Asia, were killed when a sightseeing balloon caught fire in Luxor.

The Egyptian Aviation Authority confirmed 19 people were injured in the crash, which took place at about 7:30 a.m. local time.

The accident occurred in Luxor, in southern Egypt, which is popular with tourists due to its number of ancient temples and ruins.
