Everton's Ross Barkley set to join Antonio Conte's Chelsea for £15 million

Ross Barkley

But Chelsea were happy to pay to secure his services in January, with Antonio Conte enthused by Barkley's potential.

The Blues have reportedly re-opened talks over a move for Barkley, but Everton are yet to agree. Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "If Conte is looking for strength in depth, he could do a lot worse than adding Barkley to his ranks and it looks as though the Italian gaffer may have won the race for the England star".

Barkley rejected the offer of a lucrative contract from his boyhood club past year and made it clear to the Goodison Park hierarchy that he was looking for pastures new, with many pinning his desire for wanting to leave down to his fractured relationship with former manager Ronald Koeman, who was relieved of his duties in October.

According to the Telegraph, Barkley has been impressed by Chelsea's persistence to procure his signature and now has no hesitations to move to Stamford Bridge.

Barring any late problems, Barkley could be a Chelsea player by the end of the day, bringing an end to a 13-year stay on Merseyside that saw him make 179 first team appearances since making his debut in 2011.

With the Everton midfielder expected to go out of contract at season end, Chelsea are utilizing the current situations and have submitted their bid around £15 million.

The Wavetree-born player, 24, has yet to feature for Allardyce's side this season due to a hamstring injury picked up during pre-season training.

The England worldwide claimed he wanted a new challenge and there was reported interest in him from Tottenham Hotspur as well as the reigning Premier League champions.

Speaking on Thursday, Everton manager Sam Allardyce admitted that his club were braced to receive further offers from "some of the big boys" for Barkley and conceded that his departure from Goodison Park is inevitable.
