Giants suspend Apple for finale for 'detrimental' conduct

Landon Collins calls teammate Eli Apple a'cancer in the Giants locker room

Having been suspended for repeated conduct detrimental to the team, NY now have a chance to void the guaranteed money on Apple's contract and potentially part ways with him without fear of eating a large chunk of dead cap.

Collins apologized for the comments on Wednesday.

I guess he don't remember things, "Collins said on December 14 when reporters relayed Apple's reaction. I never stop supporting my brother/teammate Eli and the rest of my teammates as we move forward", he wrote.

"He has to grow up", Collins added.

Well, not quite. The damage is certainly done, and Collins ended up playing a small role in that. The man who raised Apple from the time he was two years old is no longer a part of his life.

Make no mistake: Apple's presence has gotten in the way of their performance.

December 17, 2017: New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple (24) is shaken up after a play against the Philadelphia Eagles during the first half of an NFL football game in East Rutherford, N.J. But he is a reason, one of many, for their ineptitude.

They will close out their season against the Washington Redskins.

Apple said the next day that he had not spoken to Collins about anything.

'What was that?': Mysterious lights over California explained
Musk tweeted that it was "definitely aliens" sharing a video of the launch with the caption "nuclear alien UFO from North Korea". Calls came into TV stations as far afield as San Diego, more than 200 miles south of the launch site.

The Giants fired GM Jerry Reese - who drafted Apple - and coach Ben McAdoo on December 4. A new regime might want to rid the team of problems and start over. "That would be the only person I would change out of our secondary group". Those remarks came on the heels of one report that Apple threatened to walk out on the team after his play was criticized and another that the 2016 first-round pick is "disliked" within the organization.

Collins was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.

Apple has gone through lots of personal difficulties this year. He was selected to start in the Pro Bowl for the second consecutive season, but will not be participating due to the injury.

Before the suspension, the Giants would have had to eat close to $9 million in dead money, and pay out about $4.3 million in combined base salary for 2018 and 2019. "I spoke highly of him".

Apple appeared in 11 games with NY this season, making seven starts.

Apple's mother, Annie, underwent brain surgery in November. As recently as Wednesday morning he was quoted by ESPN saying Apple had "given up" on the team because he was sitting on the bench and not standing on the sideline during Sunday's loss to the Cardinals.

Obviously, one player calling another "a cancer" like this is not something that happens every day, and it's even more freaky that the two are teammates.

Apple played just seven snaps during Sunday's 23-0 defeat at Arizona, all on special teams. That's all I have to say.
