Two Students Reportedly Wounded in Shooting Outside Pierce County High School

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported that two students were shot at Graham-Kapowsin High School in Graham.

Two neighboring schools also were in lockdown after the shooting but were reopened earlier than the high school and their students were released, said Bethel School District officials.

One student was found near the school's football field, the other in a locker room, according to the local Sheriff's office.

The victims were taken to hospitals for medical treatment.

Witnesses described the suspects as black males who reportedly fled the scene in a green automobile, possibly a Chevrolet Impala or similar in appearance.

John Gutierrez, 41, who was driving to pick up his son from the school, said he noticed the sheriff's deputies on his way to the school and added he was asked to leave the parking lot when he arrived.

Voyager 1 probe fires long-dormant thrusters in interstellar space
Now, nearly four decades later, they've come back to life without a hitch to take over for the failing attitude control thrusters. If you tried to start a auto that's been sitting in a garage for decades, you might not expect the engine to respond.

"We are confident there are no shooters at the school or on the school grounds", sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said about 3:45 p.m.

Police responded to reports Tuesday regarding multiple shots being fired in a school in Pierce County, Washington, and speculated it might be a gang-related activity. Authorities believe the shooting took place off campus and students ran back to the high school after being shot at.

"Pretty scary. You never think it's going to happen at the school your children go to, and then you get a text from your child that says there's a shooting at the school, we're locked down", said parent Jolee Caroucher.

Four schools in the district went under lockdown, but Graham Elementary students were recently released to their buses, per the district. "All remaining students on campus are secured with deputies, considered safe as security sweep is ongoing". Three schools remain in lockdown.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and students involved with this shooting today".

Graham-Kapowsin is part of the Bethel School District.
