Uber Hit With First State Lawsuit for Keeping Data Breach Secret

Uber Drivers Present Petition To Transport For London

For its part, Uber disclosed that two individuals outside the company inappropriately accessed user data stored on a third-party cloud-based service that it uses.

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson is suing Uber, after the ride-hailing company waited more than a year to reveal that it had been hacked, resulting in the breach of personal data for customers and drivers.

Under Washington's revised data breach law, businesses are required to notify consumers within 45 days if their personal information was accessed by an unauthorized person.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will conduct its investigation on the data breach involving personal data of users of ridesharing firm Uber in the Philippines. With investigations under way by the attorneys general of Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Mexico, and NY, there will likely be more on this front soon. If that penalty were applied to each of the affected drivers in Washington, it would total almost $22 million in penalties.

Washington is the latest state to take Uber to court over its hidden data breach. "There is no excuse for keeping this information from consumers". Violations carry fines of up to US$2,000, and Ferguson said each day Uber failed to notify each customer constitutes a violation.

A Shortage Of Christmas Trees
When you take it indoors, remember that cooler temperatures and higher humidity will prolong the life of the tree. But in Minnesota, we have thousands and thousands of trees available. "You want a tree that will fit your spot".

The lawsuit seeks civil penalties in the millions of dollars.

"Uber users should continue to be vigilant and follow the advice from the NCSC, which can be found on its website".

In a statement Tuesday, Uber said it takes the matter seriously and is cooperating with regulators. "We are committed to changing the way we do business, putting integrity at the core of every decision we make, and working hard to re-gain the trust of consumers".

A joint lawsuit was filed on behalf of IL and the city of Chicago on Monday, seeking to hold the ride sharing company accountable for a 2016 breach that exposed the data of 57 million customers and drivers worldwide. The trial, brought by Alphabet-owned Waymo, centres on allegations that Uber stole autonomous vehicle technology trade secrets from it.
