Woman Offering Dubious Claims About Moore Appears Linked To James O'Keefe

Project Veritas seemingly caught feeding false Moore accusations to Washington Post

The newspaper on Monday revealed hidden-camera video of would-be accuser Jamie Phillips struggling to hold her story together when a Post reporter confronted her last week.

Viewed as a whole, the events that unfolded "illustrate the lengths to which activists have gone to try to discredit media outlets for reporting on allegations from multiple women that Moore pursued them when they were teenagers and he was in his early 30s", the Post says. Earlier in the day, reporters from the newspaper saw Phillips walking into the NY offices of Project Veritas, a conservative group with a long track record of targeting Democratic groups and major media outlets, often by hiding their identities and using hidden cameras. And then Post researcher Alice Crites found a GoFundMe page posted earlier this year by someone named Jaime Phillips seeking donations to fund a move to NY after accepting "a job to work in the conservative media movement to combat the lies and deceipt [sic] of the liberal MSM". She also asked Post reporters how her claims would affect Moore's candidacy if she made a decision to go public.

"We always honor 'off-the-record" agreements when they're entered into in good faith, ' Martin Baron, The Post's executive editor, told his team of reporters that exposed the plot.

But the reporter grew suspicious after a post online put Phillips' motivations into question.

Post reporters said they witnessed Phillips walk into Project Veritas' office in Mamaroneck, N.Y., about 30 miles north of Manhattan.

'But this so-called off-the-record conversation was the essence of a scheme to deceive and embarrass us.

Then came the smoking gun: Post researchers discovered a fundraising page made by Phillips seeking financial support for a move to NY.

Shoppers evacuated after reports of shots fired at NY mall
At least two people were injured, New York State police were reported as saying. It was unclear if the shot fired was accidental or intentional, Hertman said.

James O'Keefe, the founder of Project Veritas, was convicted of a misdemeanor in 2010 for entering a federal building under false pretenses during a previous "sting".

Phillips acknowledged the ad as hers, but she said the job had fallen through - and that it had been a position she interviewed for at the Daily Caller, a conservative news website.

Later Monday, O'Keefe sent out a mass email confirming that Phillips is "an investigative journalist embedded" with the Washington Post.

The video featured a series of secretly recorded conversations with Post employees.

They also brushed off questions about whether Project Veritas has been in contact with the Moore campaign.

"I think I probably just want to cancel and not go through with it at this point", Phillips said to McCrummen in the restaurant shortly before ending the interview.
