Saudi FM Denies Ties With Israel

Iran Accuses Saudi Arabia of Pushing for War

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the Arab nations were "not declaring war on Iran at this stage", but meant to "brief" the matter with global organizations, including the United Nations Security Council.

They condemned what they described as Iran's constant meddling in Arab affairs. "It has not attacked anyone and should not have to pay the price of these conflicts with its security and political stability".

Aoun stressed that "Lebanon faced Israeli aggression and managed to free its lands, but Israel continues to target Lebanon, which gives Lebanese people every right to resist and thwart Israel's plans in every possible way".

The Lebanese envoy to the Arab League, Antoine Azzam, made carefully weighed comments at the meeting that reflected his country's delicate religious and ethnic balance.

"Lebanon is not responsible for the Arab and regional conflicts that Arab countries are witnessing", Mr Aoun told Arab League chief Ahmed Abul Gheit during their meeting in Beirut on Monday.

Arab foreign ministers gathered at Saudi Arabia's request for an extraordinary meeting to discuss alleged "violations" committed by Iran in the region, but the foreign ministers of Lebanon, Iraq and Syria were not in attendance.

The Arab ministers affirmed their solidarity with the measures Saudi Arabia took to protect its national security.

Hariri announced his resignation as prime minister of Lebanon on November 4 from Riyadh on the Saudi-funded Al-Arabiya news network, accusing Iran of destabilizing Lebanon and the region. "I have noticed that everyone showed interest in understanding the Lebanese structure, and no one wants, accepts or wishes to harm Lebanon". Saudi authorities claimed of destroying the missile before reaching its destination while Houthis said that the missile hit the target successfully.

Crews battle large apartment building fire in New York City
Firefighters are battling a large fire on the top floors of a six-story New York City apartment building. So far, no injuries have been reported , an FDNY spokesman said.

The diplomats all spoke on condition of anonymity because none were authorized to speak to the press.

"Showing leniency toward Iran will not leave any Arab capital safe from those ballistic missiles", he said.

Lebanese foreign minister Gebran Bassil -a member of the Hizbollah-allied Free Patriotic Movement and the Lebanese president's son-in-law - did not attend the Cairo meeting.

In a statement, Abou Gheit repeated that he explained to Berri that "the decision did not refer to Lebanon as a whole, but to a specific party in a certain situation". Senior Lebanese politicians close to Hariri also said he was coerced into resigning. "I am certain about this and never heard anyone suggest otherwise".

Hezballah is part of the coalition government in Lebanese government.

It's not clear whether Sunday's Arab League meeting will translate into concrete action.

"We are not declaring war on Iran at this stage", Arab League chief Ahmed Aboul-Gheit said. "I can not say anything more".
