Blizzard Announces World of Warcraft Classic, Official Vanilla Server

Overwatch

The upcoming expansion pack is named Battle for Azeroth, and it's bringing a bunch of new content.

Now there is no word as to when World of Warcraft Classic is set to release, and Blizzard has yet to share any details beyond the short cinematic trailer, but this does mean that players won't have to put up with the drama that comes with unofficial servers. The Alliance will set foot on Kul'Tiras archipelago, and the Horde will wade through jungle terrain in Zandalar.

To sum it up, all players in all realms will have the option to enable or disable PvP on their servers at any given time.

In an extensive interview with Polygon, World of Warcraft director Ion Hazzikostas discussed the game's journey since Warlords of Draenor-an expansion with poor endgame content partly responsible for driving almost 4 million subscribers away.

Still, the fact that Blizzard is even working on this feature at all speaks to their willingness to respond to fan requests if not their ability to do so in a timeframe that is always optimal in the minds of a game's fanbase. The expansion will also feature half a dozen new allied races, split between the Alliance and the Horde, and there are plans to introduce more after launch.

World of Warcraft was the focus of some major announcements at this weekend's BlizzCon in Anaheim, California. Additionally the Isle's of Azsroth will allow teams of three to explore and take loot while competing against others.

For those less keen to revisit the game's vanilla version, Blizzard also took the opportunity to reveal Battle For Azeroth, the game's seventh expansion pack. It's possible the developer will announce more details at BlizzCon, which we'll add here as we get them.

A beta test for Battles for Azeroth will be taking place, and you can opt into it through the official site.
