Trump Addresses Values Voter Summit For First Time As President

Trump to speak at anti-LGBT conference on Friday

In his speech, Trump assured his supporters that Judeo-Christian religious values would be protected by his administration and pushed the narrative that social conservatives have been under attack in the U.S.

"We're getting near that handsome Christmas season that people don't talk about any more, they don't use the word Christmas because it is not politically correct", Trump said.

"We defend our Constitution". The founders invoked "our creator" four times in the declaration of independence, he said.

The annual Values Voter Summit is sponsored by Christian hate groups like the Family Research Council and the American Family Association, groups that engage in the demonization of LGBT people by falsely portraying them as sick, vile, incestuous, violent, perverted, and a danger to the nation.

"How times have changed, but you know what, now they are changing back again, just remember that", Trump told the cheering crowd. But you know what?

A later speaker, former Rep. Michele Bachmann, vouched for Trump's religious awakening.

Trump, who has spent most of his life in socially progressive New York City, expressed liberal views about the LGBT community prior to his 2016 run, once saying he supported an amendment to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include discrimination based on sexual orientation and noting that he "grew up in New York City, a town with different races, religions, and peoples".

He said that the neighboring country is sending terrorists to India to carry out havoc activities and Indian soldiers are taking strict action on them.

Trump, the first sitting president to address the Values Voter Summit, ticked off the promises he's fulfilled to evangelical Christians and other conservatives, pledging to turn back the clock in what he described as a nation that has drifted away from its religious roots. "I didn't have a schedule, but if I did have a schedule I would say we are substantially ahead of schedule".

"Our people never lose faith, never give in, and always hope for a better tomorrow", he said.

But there was no hesitation among the crowd in its fervor for Trump, as he threw out plenty of red meat and hit many religious themes, despite showing an unfamiliarity with Scripture in the past. "We don't worship government".

"In the last 10 months we have followed through on one promise after another. They don't use the word "Christmas" because it's not politically correct", he said, explaining that politically correct culture has made it hard to celebrate the holiday. "We're saying 'Merry Christmas" again".

Entering the stage at the 2017 Values Voter Summit to chants of "USA! USA!"

Earlier in the speech, he paid tribute to victims of the mass shooting in Las Vegas, fires in California and hurricanes in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

And win them over he did - 80 percent of white evangelicals cast their vote for Trump last November, according to exit polls.
