Wildfire erupts in Southern California

Smoke is seen from a vegetation fire that ignited in the Anaheim Hills area on Monday Oct. 9 2017

A wind-driven wildfire in Southern California, has grown to 7,500 acres, Anaheim Fire and Rescue tweeted Tuesday.

With winds easing off and a rise in humidity, the fire was fairly inactive on the western edge overnight, Wyatt said at an early morning press conference.

More than 200 firefighters were battling the fire by Monday afternoon along with six helicopters and six fixed-wing planes.

It was just 5 percent contained. Other evacuation orders were also issued for residents south of the 91 Freeway and west of the 241 Freeway, north of Nohl Ranch Road and east of Serrano Avenue.

Mandatory evacuations were ordered after blazes broke out late Sunday.

Shifting winds were top of mind for crews on Wednesday.

Ten teams confirmed for World Cup; more to come Friday?
The United States would then need to hope that Costa Rica and Mexico take down Honduras so it can have a shot at finishing fourth. A win would put the USMNT on the cusp of qualification while a loss would put them in a somewhat precarious position.

The cause of the fire, which sparked only about 2 miles away from where the initial Canyon Fire started on September 25, is still under investigation.

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning through this morning for far Inland Orange County with northeast winds expected to reach 15 to 25 miles per hour and gusts to be around 35 miles per hour.

About 1,000 firefighters were involved in the firefight, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said. Fire officials said they expect about 1,000 firefighters to be on the lines by Tuesday morning.

Wildfires whipped by powerful winds swept through Northern California forcing evacuations as homes burnt. Children from Running Springs, Anaheim Hills and Canyon Rim elementary schools were also being bused over to Canyon High School.

"To California, we say though this declaration, we are with you, our prayers are with you and we will be with you every day until we put the fires out", he said.

Shelters for evacuated residents have been set up at Downtown Anaheim Youth Center, East Anaheim Community Center, and El Modena High School.
