Federal Bureau of Investigation rechecks Vegas gunman's house — WHAT'S HAPPENING

Stephen Paddock before the shooting

The gunman who killed 58 people at a Las Vegas concert shot a hotel security guard minutes before opening fire onto the crowd, authorities said Monday, shifting officials' timeline of the slayings.

Fifty-eight people died and almost 500 were injured when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire on an outdoor country music festival-an act that investigators are still at a loss to explain-before taking his own life.

"This individual purposely hid his actions leading up to this event, and it is hard for us to find the answers", Mr Lombardo told a news conference. Authorities previously said Campos' presence may have distracted Paddock; however, it's now known Campos entered the scene prior to the shooting, not after it already started.

It was not immediately clear why the timeline of the shooting changed a week later and what the impact could be on the investigation.

Retired Los Angeles Country Sheriff commander, Charles Heal, stated the new revelation "changes the whole perspective of the shooting".

Paddock shot Jesus Campos in the leg, injuring him at 9.59 p.m. on October 1, CNN quoted Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo as saying on Monday night.

A Las Vegas prostitute described Paddock, 64, as a man who enjoyed sex fantasies and bragged that he was "born bad" because of his criminal father, Benjamin, who was a bank robber on the FBI's Most Wanted list.

"We now know that he was dispatched to a door alarm on the 32nd floor", he said.

The hand-written note was found near a window that Paddock had smashed to fire on the crowd, and included calculations about where to aim to kill as many people as possible in the crowd, about 400 metres away from the hotel.

He has eight games with at least two sacks since entering the National Football League in 2014, tied for third-most in that span. Lynch has gained 30 yards on 15 carries in the past two games while the Raiders have managed just 56 yards total on the ground.

Paddock worked for a time as an Internal Revenue Service agent, then began to invest in real estate, CNN reported.

Detective Matthew Donaldson said, "I just threw them in the casino".

There is no indication that anyone other than Paddock himself fired into the crowd, said Lombardo, adding that investigators were speaking to family members and partner of the gunman, Marilou Danley.

Admitting she now has a "mental and emotional feeling of insanity", McKendry said she has offered free rides to victims' families to help process what happened.

Federal investigators returned to search the home of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock on Sunday to recheck items.

"Every piece of information we get is one more piece of the puzzle in this case", Lombardo said.

Investigators are now working on learning more about Paddock's frame of mind.

Eric Paddock said that when Stephen Paddock's body is released, he wants to have his remains cremated and sent to their 89-year-old mother, who also lives in Orange County.

The sheriff said, "We believe he made a decision to take the lives he did and he had a very purposeful plan he carried out".
