Harvey Weinstein fired from his company after sexual misconduct allegations

The now closed Socialista at 505 West St. was located in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan

Lance Maerov, one of the company's four board members, said the board was made aware that Weinstein had violated the company's code of conduct.

Many Hollywood stars applauded the move by the Weinstein Co. board.

A spokeswoman for the executive did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Harvey Weinstein was sacked over the weekend as head of the film studio he co-founded with his brother.

Before Weinstein founded the company he was just fired from, he and his brother, Bob Weinstein, co-founded Miramax films, which they later sold to Disney.

A report surfaced late Friday in the Huffington Post claiming that Weinstein had made unwanted sexual advances toward a TV journalist, Lauren Sivan, a decade ago in NY, including cornering Sivan at a restaurant and masturbating in front of her.

The ball's in your court, May tells European Union leaders
However, she will add that she still believes she can negotiate the best deal possible for the United Kingdom and EU. This stalemate is bad news and makes either no deal or a best-case-scenario bad deal the most likely outcome.

The NY Times article runs through a series of interactions in which women were victims of Weinstein's sexual harrasment, including actress Ashley Judd.

A company insider told TheWrap that the decision to change the name has not yet been formally made, but there were already discussions among the board members and will likely to happen.

A statement from the Weinstein Company's directors said that "in light of new information about misconduct" Mr Weinstein was being dismissed with immediate effect.

Weinstein, in an initial statement, explained, "I came of age in the 60's and 70's, when all the rules about behavior and workplaces were different. Georgina will be kicking my a** to be a better human being and to apologise to people for my bad behaviour, to say I'm sorry, and to absolutely mean it". On Thursday, he initially said he "appreciate [d]" how his past behavior had "caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it". "That was the culture then", the 65-year-old said.

The firing of Weinstein by his own company, Konner said, "is going to scare any man in Hollywood using his power for anything but making movies and television". But Weinstein and his lawyers have criticized the New York Times' report in statements and interviews.
