Western Michigan and Buffalo break FBS scoring record in 7OT thriller

EAST LANSING MI- SEPTEMBER 09 Broncos running back Jarvion Franklin takes off during a non-conference NCAA football game between Michigan State and Western Michigan

This week? That place was UB Stadium in Buffalo.

Arkansas 71, Kentucky 63 in 2003.

The game is now tied at 45 in the third overtime.

139 - Combined points, the most for a game in FBS history.

Only 14 total points were scored in the middle two quarters, all by Western Michigan, but Buffalo outscored the Broncos 17-7 in the fourth quarter.

Seven overtimes in a game is interesting, but a sister on the field is on another level of intriguing. Little did anybody know that less than half of the game's scoring would actually be done in regulation.

Western Michigan and Buffalo battled it out on the gridiron into seven overtimes Saturday, the Broncos finally winning the longest game in Mid-American Conference history. After tying the game again, it became a family affair as Ernsberger's sister rushed on field to celebrate.

The two teams traded the lead back and forth all game long.

It's not often a football team scores 71 points, and has to rally on its last possession.

Ernsberger caught the touchdown to tie up the game at 38, after Buffalo score on its first frame of overtime. It did exactly that, with a 12-yard Jarvion Franklin touchdown run ending the marathon game in the seventh OT. That game, however, happened in regulation.

The number of total touchdowns, the seven overtime periods, and the total points and yardage racked up by the losing quarterback all set MAC records.

But Donnie surely appreciates the unparalleled support from his sister, and Western Michigan still won the game...
