In FSU win, Malik Rosier proves he's Miami's big-game quarterback

But FSU is eighth in the ACC and tied for 47th in the nation in scoring defense (allowing 23.5 points per game) and are not making almost enough big plays: the 'Noles are tied for 123rd in the nation in forcing only three turnovers and are tied for 66th in the nation with an average of 2.0 sacks per game. This does not sit well with Hurricanes' head coach Mark Richt, who sprinted to midfield and told the players to "get your asses" out of there.

Maybe Coach Jimbo Fisher doesn't fully trust his freshman QB? Rosier connected with Ahmmon Richards on a 33-yard sideline route, and a few plays later Richards decked A.J. Westbrook on a scramble with one of those big hits that used to be the norm in this rivalry. Considering the first half of the season, which was interrupted in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, Miami has found a way to get to mid-October with undefeated record and a decent look at the ACC Coastal Division.

That changed on Saturday, as Miami picked up a victory in its first real challenge of the season.

Tyler's punts made a key impact during the first half. "It was a long time coming for our players, coaches administration, but certainly a long time coming for our fans".

Both defenses were unable to stop each other during a wild-and-wacky fourth period that saw the teams combine for 31 points, 18 more than the first three quarters. He is the first Hurricanes receiver since Reggie Wayne in 2000 to grab a TD pass in each of Miami's first four games. Final score Miami Hurricanes 24, Florida State Seminoles 20.

"We made a couple of mistakes ... four or five plays determined the outcome of the game", said FSU linebacker Matthew Thomas.

Both drives came just after FSU's offense had given the team the lead.

Rosier and FSU quarterback James Blackman dueled in the fourth quarter in classic fashion. On third-and-10 at the 34-yard line, facing the possibility of a long field goal, Rosier completed an 11-yard pass to Berrios to move the chains. "They're pounding that ball up in there", Fisher said. "We just needed to make one more play than we did". "We know that there's more games ahead, including a tough matchup away against Duke, so we'll take 24 hours to recover from the loss and get back to work on Monday".

Barrios had a career day.

Chazz Surratt threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Ratliff-Williams before halftime in the only noteworthy offensive play for the Tar Heels (1-5).

Rosier had an all-or-nothing performance after finishing 19 of 44 for 254 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Hill also threw a 45-yard touchdown pass and was on the receiving end of a 48-yard score for the Frogs (5-0, 2-0).

Blackman finished 17 of 28 for 203 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Akers rushed for 121 yards on 20 carries, while Patrick tallied 91 on 11 carries.

Miami's defense set the tone early, and the offense came alive in the second half to propel the Hurricanes to a 24-20 win over the Florida State Seminoles. Early in the season, it was easy to imagine these two teams meeting in the ACC title game; that's all but out of the question for Florida State now, while Miami faces a doable schedule until a November 4 meeting with Virginia Tech that could decide the Coastal Division.
