United States hits Bombardier with another round of duties

Unite union officials Kieran Ellison and Collum Bell ask the Northern Ireland fans for their support before last night’s World Cup qualifier with Germany

On Friday, the U.S. Commerce Department announced that it would impose an 80-percent preliminary anti-dumping duty against importers of Bombardier's C Series 100-to-150-seat civilian aircraft following a complaint by Boeing that Bombardier allegedly priced its aircraft "millions below production cost in an illegal effort to grab market share in the U.S. single-aisle airplane market".

"This determination confirms that, as Boeing alleged in its petition, Bombardier dumped its aircraft into the US market at absurdly low prices", it said in a news release.

The duties are in response to a complaint from US competitor, Boeing, that accused Quebec-based Bombardier of selling 75 of its new CSeries jets to Delta Air Lines at below production cost to gain market share and that the government subsidized the project.

The Department of Commerce said Bombardier had failed to provide the information it had requested.

The US trade commission is due to rule on the Department of Commerce's 220% tax proposal next year, but ISME said the European Union should not wait for the final decision. The duties would be applied to Bombardier's CSeries when delivered to Delta Airlines from the spring of 2018.

Several U.S. senators and House members also expressed their unhappiness, calling the decision "shortsighted" because it threatens thousands of jobs across the country supported by Bombardier and its suppliers. "We will continue to verify the accuracy of this decision, while doing everything in our power to stand up for American companies and their workers".

Bombardier is bracing for a similar type of announcement pertaining to anti-dumping duties, but has said it's confident the American penalties will be overturned.

We guess that's what happens when whisky gets involved! "I feel like that's where this is headed", Gosling responded. And, as previews for the film make very clear, he eventually will come into contact with Ford's aged Deckard.

Boeing says it is the world's largest manufacturer of military aircraft.

Bombardier said the complaint can not be justified because Boeing did not have a plane that matched the Delta specifications when the bid was awarded to the Canadian aircraft manufacturer in 2016.

The US Department of Commerce has again ruled against aerospace firm Bombardier in its dispute with rival Boeing. The firm order for 75 aircraft had a list price of US$5.6 billion, although large orders typically secure large discounts. The plane supports an estimated 22,700 jobs and Bombardier's aerospace division spent $2.14 billion in the United States a year ago, according to the company and documents seen by Reuters.

Boeing accuses Bombardier of selling its biggest jet in the U.S. at less than fair value, while benefiting from unfair government subsidies.

All aerospace manufacturers, including Boeing, discount new models, Bombardier spokeswoman Nathalie Siphengphet said, adding that the USA company's "hypocrisy is appalling".
