Gun fight ends, 1 jawan, 3 terrorists killed in battle

BSF jawan injured in sniping fire by Pak on LoC

Earlier, one Indian Border Security Force man was killed and around six were injured after unidentified gunmen entered the Border Security Force camp near Srinagar Airport, early in the morning.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has called a high level meeting to discuss the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the militant attack at a BSF camp in Srinagar on Tuesday, reports said.

The body of the second terrorist is yet to be retrieved.

Meanwhile, airport operations have been suspended as the security forces were engaged with the remaining terrorists holed-up in a nearby building. The training centres of BSF and CRPF are also located in the area. Residents of the area said that they heard dozens of loud explosions which rattled entire Humaham and its adjoining neighbourhoods. This season alone 130-150 militants have been killed and now the JeM is trying to push its forces forward in Kashmir. The operation could have been finished much earlier had we used aerial weapons. Eight security personnel and three militants of the Jaish-e-Mohammed were killed in the attack.

The identity of the attackers was yet to be ascertained but the Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit has claimed the responsibility for the attack. Shortly after their entry, there was heavy barrage of fire and explosions between militants and the security personnel. The same group was also involved in one of the deadliest attacks on an army installation in Uri in September 2016, in which 18 soldiers lost their lives.

"Normal flight operations have resumed and passengers were boarding flights", said Sharad Kumar, director of the airport's operator.

The officer added: "As long as Pakistan is our neighbour, such attacks will keep happening".

This is the first militant attack in almost 30 years so close to the airport.

A suspected militant attack killed three people in Tral last month, while an Indian policeman was lynched in Srinagar in June.
