Keenum, Vikings Beat Buccaneers

QB Jameis Winston says he’s focused on the deep-ball chances to De Sean Jackson he missed in the opener “We left a lot out there.”

MINNEAPOLIS-A week after making a rocky season debut, Vikings quarterback Case Keenum set a career high in passing yardage en route to leading Minnesota to a 34-17 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday, Sept. 24. The Tampa defense looked pretty solid in a 29-7 win over the Chicago Bears last week, picking off two passes and holding the Bears to just 20 yards rushing. On a related note, it means the Vikings need to get more out of their defense and running game in Week 3 in order to come out of it victorious against a very talented Buccaneers squad.

Standout defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, who was limited this week in practice by an ankle problem, limped off twice in the second half before returning from each absence.

His interception, one of three for the Vikings, seemed to start the unraveling of Jameis Winston. His totals: 53 for 76 (69.7 percent) for 793 yards, seven touchdowns and just one interception with three sacks.

The Vikings drove 75 yards on the game's first possession with a heavy dose of Cook and one big play by Keenum to Thielen. However, the Vikings won the last meetings between these two teams, a 19-13 overtime win in 2014. His weaving run after the catch led to a 59-yard touchdown to put Minnesota up 28-3 early in the third quarter. They converted only one of six third downs. On third-and-three from the Vikings' 41, Keenum threw to Diggs on the left sideline. Those two also hooked up to finish the drive, with Brate leaping to catch a 15-yard touchdown pass and holding on despite a hit from safety Andrew Sendejo that left him wobbly as he tried to stand back up. Zimmer said he probably won't know until gametime, meaning the Vikings and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be in the dark about Bradford until gametime on Sunday (10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET, FOX, DirecTV). Tampa Bay got another stop but the Vikings were still able to tack on Forbath's 37-yard field goal to make it a three-score contest again.
