Slender Man stabbing: Anissa Weier found mentally ill

Schoolgirl spared jail after urging girl to stab friend in 'tribute to Slender Man'

A "deluded" schoolgirl helped a friend stab their classmate 19 times so the fictional Slender Man character would not slaughter her family, a court heard.

Melissa Westendorf testified at Anissa Weier's mental capacity trial in Wisconsin that she believes Weier suffered from a shared delusional disorder when she and Morgan Geyser tried to kill Payton Leutner in 2014.

This verdict means Weier will go to a mental hospital instead of prison. Her trial is set to begin October 9.

"The potential release of an assailant that methodically planned and executed an attack in which our little girl was stabbed 19 times puts the community and our family at risk", the statement continued. Jurors will determine whether she was mentally ill at the time of the stabbing.

Weier and Geyser were both 12 years old when they lured their classmate, Leutner, into the woods in the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha and allegedly stabbed her.

Anissa Weier trembled as the jury's verdict was read after a week of testimony and some 11 hours of deliberations.

The girls told investigators they stabbed her to impress Slenderman, a tall, creepy fictional bogeyman they insisted was real, the complaint said.

Ms McMahon claimed Weier and Geyser had become obsessed with Slender Man, developing a condition called shared delusional disorder.

US House votes to block aircraft sales to Iran
The administration also faces an October 15 deadline to certify whether Iran remains in compliance with the nuclear deal. The three-month recertification deadlines determine the status of sanction relief under the agreement.

Van Rybroek examined Weier previous year.

For the first time, a detective Wednesday shared the victim's account of what happened the day two Waukesha girls stabbed their friend almost to death.

A detective who interviewed Leutner testified in the Waukesha County courtroom that Geyser had been scaring her beforehand with stories about characters from a horror website.

"I'm very thankful for the jurors to take the time to look closely at what really was happening with my client", McMahon said.

In his questioning of Trussoni, Assistant District Attorney Kevin Osborne focused on the fact Weier didn't clearly tell anyone she was afraid of Slender Man's wrath until after the stabbing, reinforcing his comments in opening statements Tuesday that Weier understood that what they were doing was wrong, but that she went along with the plot to preserve her friendship with Geyser.

WISN 12 News reporter Nick Bohr says the key question unanswered so far is: Was Weier able to conform her conduct to the law?

Both Weier and Geyser were originally charged with being a party to attempted first-degree intentional homicide. She found guilty to attempted the second-degree intentional homicide.
