Manchester City make flying start against Feyenoord in Champions League

Yaya Toure Manchester City

Pep Guardiola's side empathically opened their Champions League campaign with a huge win over Dutch champions Feyenoord. City are consistent in their ability to get through to the knockout stages, and with a relatively favourable group stage, we ought to see them repeat the feat. That match, woefully tossed away without the semblance of a proper fight against Real Madrid, represents City's only foray beyond the round of 16 so far.

Feyenoord will be without Nicolai Jørgensen when they take on Manchester City in their Champions League opener.

It was this style of play that saw the former Everton global come close to besting Xavi's passing record in the Champions League at De Kuip in Rotterdam, on Wednesday night. "Perhaps many thought that with Pep's arrival, City were going to win [the league] by a 15-point margin, and in England it doesn't work like that".

Just over 13 months ago, Manchester City paid £47.5 million to snap up John Stones from Everton on a six-year deal, owing to the youngster's growing reputation as a brilliant centre-back. Having eclipsed Ajax last season, they will be keen to impress on their return to the big stage they dominated briefly in the early 70s.

City took its foot off the accelerator for the last half hour and Feyenoord looked a little more solid at the back after reverting to its more trusted four-man defense.

Oil Prices Rise As Crude Demand Surges (USO)
United States production also saw a dip while oil rig count fell last week which supported prices at lower levels. API also reported gasoline supplies fell by 7.9 million barrels and distillate inventories fell by 1.8 barrels.

The Spaniard, legendary pass-master of possession-loving Barcelona, holds the record for the best passing performance in a Champions League match.

The England global headed home two goals, including the opener after two minutes, as the Citizens thrashed Feyenoord 4-0 in the opening round of Group F fixtures. Bernardo Silva is likely to prove just as moveable: he started off as a number 10, played on the right wing at times for Monaco and for Portugal and has even played on the left, too, although he does not enjoy it as much. In fact, the amount of goals scored in last season's run will be cause for concern for Guardiola. It was the Argentine's 50th goal in European competition.

But De Bruyne said he must deliver on a consistent basis to help City win trophies this season, telling reporters: "It makes me happy, but the other way it is also a way of putting pressure on me to do well".

Guardiola will also be without Vincent Kompany, who has suffered his latest calf problem.

On top of that, the pair started against Feyenoord in City's first game of this year's Champions League, both getting on the scoresheet in the 4-0 dismantling of the Dutch champions.
