ESPN apologizes after host Jemele Hill calls Trump a white supremacist

ESPN Distances Itself From Anchor Jemele Hill's Trump'White Supremacist Tweets

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders suggested that Jemele Hill's comment that President Donald Trump was a "white supremacist" should be a "fireable offense".

The African-American anchor tweeted on Monday that he was the "most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime".

ESPN rising star Pablo Torre retweeted himself from shortly after Trump was elected: "The difference between being a white supremacist and permitting white supremacy might exist". Do you feel she should received a harsher punishment from the network for her comments about President Trump or did ESPN handle the situation fairly? He is not a leader. Many of Hill's fans couldn't see the lie in her comments, but ESPN issued a statement shortly after, claiming that her actions were "inappropriate".

Jemele Hill's Twitter feed has been noticeably quiet but she did respond to some of the haters who tried to come for her with her usual expert with. The president famously defended both those protesting and attending the white nationalist rally, saying, "You have people who are very fine people on both sides".

"If Jemele can say that and Linda can't say what she said, what kind of standard actually exists here?" The Post's Erik Wemple reported last week that at a recent Politico staff meeting, reporters asked about the policy about tweeting their opinions on white supremacy and other topics that deserve widespread condemnation.

The network has a history of suspending or firing people who cross the line politically, but Hill's fate remains unclear.

Being patently politically correct is also a thing at ESPN now, apparently.

ESPN past year fired the conservative Schilling for what management deemed insensitive social media posts targeting, not a politician, but transgender people.

Ms Hill's tweets drew ire online, where Twitter users called for her to be fired. ESPN has distanced themselves from Hill. "Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated", the network said in a 2016 statement.

The controversy following Hill's tweets has even sparked debate among sports analysts, New York Daily News reports.
