India calls on Myanmar to act with restraint in Rakhine

Civil society protests against Rohingyas genocide in Myanmar

The photos emerging from the border between the two countries show these people's desperate situation. The Myanmar government says almost 400 people have been killed in fighting it blames on insurgents, though Rohingya say Myanmar troops and Buddhist mobs attacked them and destroyed their villages.

Biren said: "The worldwide border with Myanmar is porous and all steps have been taken to check any attempt to sneak into Manipur".

Anti-Muslim rioting that erupted in Rakhine state in 2012 forced more than 100,000 Rohingya into displacement camps in Bangladesh, where many still live today.

Almost 300,000 Rohingya Muslim have fled to Bangladesh and 30,000 non-Muslim civilians have been displaced inside Myanmar after the military launched a counter-offensive following attacks by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) insurgents on police posts and an army base on August 25.

The Indian statement came in the backdrop of the continuous exodus of Rohingya Muslims from the Buddhist-majority country in the wake of violence against them.

The violence was triggered on August 25 when an ethnic Rohingya insurgent group attacked police posts in Myanmar and security forces retaliated.

They said that among the torched villages were the hamlets of Ah Htet Nan Yar and Auk Nan Yar, some 65 km (40 miles) north of Sittwe, capital of Rakhine state.

Zeid, a Jordanian prince, noted that the United Nations refugee agency has reported that 270,000 people have fled to neighboring Bangladesh in the last three weeks, and pointed to satellite imagery and reports of "security forces and local militia burning Rohingya villages" and extrajudicial killings.

At the same time, Malaysia will send a humanitarian mission to help refugees seeking shelter at the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, Prime Minister Najib Razak said.

While Burmese Buddhists in Myanmar also worship the Buddha, they follow a different religious tradition than Tibetans and do not recognize the Dalai Lama as their spiritual leader.

Myanmar on Wednesday announced that it is negotiating with China and Russian Federation to ensure they block any UN Security Council censure over the violence that has forced those people to flee.

The plight of the Rohingyas has triggered broad global condemnation of Myanmar and the country's Nobel peace prize laureate leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

"Even if all we get to eat is a plate of rice, we can burn a red chili and mix it and it will taste nice", says a woman in the Kutupalong refugee camp.

Bhushan had appraised the court that approximately 40,000 Rohingya Muslims residing in India were registered with the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). There are an estimated 40,000 Rohingya Muslim refugees in India; spread across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan and Delhi.
