While relief efforts are still underway in Texas, the Oklahoma National Guard is keeping a close eye on Hurricane Irma as well.

By Friday, 8,000 members of the Florida National Guard were expected to be mobilized ahead of Irma's predicted landfall on a path to take it northward up the Florida Keys for a potential direct hit on Miami this weekend.

Members of the state's Army National Guard deployed to Florida earlier this week to provide emergency response support for people expected to be impacted by Hurricane Irma which has already caused catastrophic damage in the Caribbean.

- Army National Guard soldiers from Florida, South Carolina, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are now on State Active Duty status and are either responding, or prepared to respond to each governor's priorities.

Officials said Sunday that more than 2,500 Wisconsin Guard troops will go to Florida.

About 450,000 National Guard Airman and Soldiers from across the nation are on standby to support domestic response efforts for the hurricane. The Air Force moved 50 F-16 Fighting Falcons and 100 personnel from Shaw Air Force Base in SC to a base in Louisiana, and numerous KC-135 tankers and F-15 Eagles from bases in Florida, Military.com reported.

More than half of the 131 Airmen who deployed to Puerto Rico on September 7 also took part in the Hurricane Harvey mission, according to Capt. Linda Varela, the 106th Rescue Wing executive officer.

A Pentagon spokesman told CBN News that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has approved the use of the USS Oak Hill and the USS Kearsarge, amphibious ships now off Florida's east coast, if help is requested from Gov. Rick Scott, R-Fla.
