This Delta plane flew safely in and out of Hurricane Irma

Experts say Gasoline Shortages Brought on by Statewide Panic Over Irma Supply is Available

(CBS11) - With Hurricane Irma bearing down on Puerto Rico, a Delta Air Lines crew successfully navigated a plane through a calm pathway in the outer bands of the Category 5 storm, getting evacuees out of San Juan on what was possibly the last flight off the island. According to the Miami Herald, most flights to Puerto Rico had been canceled from September 5 through September 7. Many people were stranded on the island as airline companies made a decision to cancel their flights after warnings were issued.

Other Twitter users cheered on the flight as Rabinowitz posted updates. According to HuffPost, these flights departed from Miami International Airport and Ft.

With windspeeds on the ground picking up, the race was on to get a full flight to its destination on time.

Police patrol the area as Hurricane Irma approaches in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on September 6. "Everyone else has turned around".

Rabinowitz watched in awe at the pilot's skill and tweeted: "Amazing stuff".

The Spaniard denied Schwartzman on a break point in the fourth game, and on 6-of-8 in the match, then broke again in the seventh game before holding for victory in just under two hours.

The flight crew that brought the plane safely into San Juan was relieved by a second crew that flew the plane back to NY.

Flight data shows that a Delta flight from NY to San Juan arrived at the airport, pulled into the gate and departed less than an hour later with 170 passengers on board to successfully escape one of the worst storms the Atlantic Ocean has ever seen.

Fifty-two minutes after landing, the time had come.

Delta released a statement later on Wednesday praising its meteorology team as "the best in the business".

In a statement, the airlines also said when the plane was approaching San Juan, "winds were around 24 knots with gusts up to 31 knots - all well below operating limits for the 737-900ER to safely operate". Delta has to get the passengers off, ready the aircraft for departure, and board the next wave of passengers, all before the impending hurricane makes a safe takeoff impossible. The Washington Post reports that air traffic control has since ended all operations.
