Rush Limbaugh forced to flee "liberal hoax" Hurricane Irma

Morning show host Al Roker smiles during a taping of NBC's

So, earlier this week, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh suggested that all of the hype surrounding Hurricane Irma - a Category 5 storm with 185 miles per hour winds - was part of a "deep state" conspiracy to advance a "climate change agenda" and sell a lot of bottles of water.

"If it ends up not hitting where you are, hits somewhere else, you might temporarily breathe a sigh of relief, but you're still going to think, 'Man, there might be something to this climate change", Mr Limbaugh said. "We'll be on the air next week, folks, from parts unknown", Limbaugh said Thursday on his program, according to ThinkProgress.

After CNN's Brian Stelter shared the news on Friday, noting that Mark Steyn was filling in for Limbaugh, Today meteorologist retorted, "Wait".

Controversy swirled around Limbaugh throughout the week after the 66-year-old said that while he's "not a meteorologist", and nothing he says "should be considered to be a forecast or a prediction", he believes that hurricanes are often hyped to help increase ratings on the media side while driving sales for retailers who offer storm supplies.

"Do not listen to @rushlimbaugh when he says #Irma is not a unsafe #storm and is hype", Roker wrote on Twitter. But on his radio show Tuesday, Limbaugh floated a controversial theory: News coverage is inflating the storm's potential danger as part of a liberal media bias in regard to global warming. "It is not. This is life threatening, it could be devastating, and if anyone tells you otherwise, it is nearly criminal", he said. "All you need is to create the fear and panic accompanied by talk that climate change is causing hurricanes to become more frequent and bigger and risky".

'You can accomplish a lot just by creating fear and panic. I guess. I could say, "Rush Limbaugh is a narcissistic blow-hard who has always been more interested in hearing the sound of his own voice, and pushing the spread of misinformation to help further dubious Republican causes among his army of fans so sycophantic that they're literally called 'Dittoheads, ' all so that he might further enrich himself". But all of this is done on goal because - and once it's committed to, once you reach the three-day forecast range, which we're in now, 72 hours out, once you reach that, they're committed. "There haven't been more hurricanes and no more risky than any others in previous years", Limbaugh told listeners.

Sure, tell the "hurricane reporting is just a hoax to promote a false climate change narrative" to the Hurricane Harvey victims stranded in flood waters and living in shelters after their homes were demolished. It is not. This is life threatening. He strongly urged people to evacuate if asked to do so by local officials. They don't have to go through the environmentalist wackos. People run to the stores, they stock up everything, and they hoard.

Earlier in the week, Roker was one of those quick to admonish Limbaugh's controversial comments that the media is purposefully creating "fear and panic" about Hurricane Irma to "advance this climate change agenda".
