FEMA calls Nebraska Task Force 1 to Florida for Hurricane Irma

Ohio Task Force 1 Back Home From Harvey Preparing for Possible Deployment to Florida

It's the second hurricane-related mission for Lincoln-based Nebraska Task Force 1 in as many weeks.

Despain says this might be the first time the task force had back-to-back callouts.

Officials said 39 members of an urban search and rescue task force departed from Philadelphia on Wednesday for a staging area in Mobile, Alabama.

The Red Cross was one of many organizations who sent volunteers from Nevada to deal with clean-up in Texas. Union College students gathered hammers, saws and other construction items to distribute to Texans cleaning up their homes in Port Arthur and Beaumont.

The massive Hurricane Irma was headed for the Turks and Caicos Islands on Thursday.

About one third of the team called up also went to Houston in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

A historic number of response partners engaged to support Texans, including the Texas Military Department and State Guard with high-profile vehicles and helicopters, which were teamed with water rescue swimmers from TX-TF1, he added.

Still, the logistics of two major missions in a row were "a heavy lift". "This is a significant opportunity for them to do it again, even though it is back-to-back".

They began search-and-rescue efforts early this morning as they wait for the rest of the Virginia Task Force 2 team to join them from Puerto Rico and the arrival of another 18 members directly to St. Thomas, according to the VBFD.

"We had a full schedule, and when we called our customers to tell them the situation and that their repairs might be delayed and why".

"I believe everybody got a chance to go home and rehab those who are going out the door back to back", says Memphis Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Colin Burress.
