Awe-Inspiring Nadal Crushes Del Potro to Reach Final

Spanish star Rafael Nadal qualified for the men's singles final at the US Open tennis tournament with a hard fought victory over Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina here.

The two time US Open champion faced Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine in his fourth round match and won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4, 6-1, not giving Dolgopolov any margin for error. "I was playing so-so at the beginning of the tournament and I have been playing better and better every day".

Talking about his build-up to the US Open, Federer added: "I think there's definitely things that happened in the preparation and throughout the tournament that led to my performance today, because I can play much better but I can play worse, too".

Asked if he was thinking about Nadal, the third seed said: "I wasn't. I made him move more and make it all more unpredictable".

In the other men's semi-final, Kevin Anderson of South Africa will play Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain. "Congrats to him, because we played very good match".

Federer said in some ways he wasn't disappointed because he knew his game was weaker than it looked, having been aided by playing three rivals in a row who have a combined 0-40 record against him.

Eight years on and after so many injuries, Del Potro's backhand is not yet back to where it was but he was encouraged by the way it held up against Federer.

This is going to be his 23rd Grand Slam finals, and he is going to be after his 16th title. That puts Nadal, at 31, through to his 23rd major-tournament final, and his fourth USA championship match. Nadal is again healthy and capable of excellence, after wrist and knee injuries dulled his effectiveness in 2015 and 2016 - the first seasons since 2004 in which he not only failed to win a Grand Slam trophy but didn't even make a final.

Supermassive Black Hole Discovered In The Milky Way
Researchers say they will continue to study the intermediate-mass black hole candidate in the hope of confirming its existence. A big black hole lurking near the centre of the Milky Way could constitute an important clue to how even bigger ones form.

The 36-year-old insisted it was his physical struggles, along with the form of Del Potro, that decided the match.

"If I play at my best level, I believe I'm going to have my chances against everybody".

He ended with authority at the lovely course of Del Potro, impressive victor in the quarter-finals of the big favorite, the Swiss Roger Federer.

"Of course it is a pity, but Juan Martin deserves it more", Federer said after Wednesday's quarterfinal.

Del Potro said that simply walking out into Arthur Ashe Stadium for his quarter-final against Federer had made him put his physical difficulties to one side.

Nadal, meanwhile, understands what a threat Del Potro poses, as the Argentinian showed when he beat Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer in his last two matches despite suffering from flu.

"But when you have this draw, you have to do your best to take advantage, so I think that is a really good tournament for me".
