High-speed passenger train derails in Indian capital

Two coaches of Ranchi Rajdhani Express derail in Delhi

The engine and power vehicle of Rajdhani Express travelling from Ranchi to New Delhi were derailed from the track near Shivaji Bridge in Delhi. "Since the speed of the train (Ranchi-Delhi Rajdhani Express) was very low, there was no injury to any passenger", said Neeraj Sharma, Northern Railways spokesperson.

Long distance train services on the Central Railway were severely hit on Thursday evening due to a derailment in the Western Ghats section, officials said. In another incident on August 23, as 10 coaches of Kaifiyat Express train derailed after crashing into a dumper which strayed on to the tracks in Auraiya district, about 100 passengers were wounded.

As per reports, the accident happened near Delhi's Minto Bridge when engine and power vehicle of Ranchi Rajdhani Express derailed.

As per Republic TV, a train derailment was averted in UP today after a man noticed broken tracks and alerted drivers of Kalindi Express by placing a red cloth.

Earlier this morning, Shaktikunj Express train derailed near Obra railway station close to Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh.

All of them are safe and no one was injured in the accident, said ministry spokesperson Anil Saxena. Last month, 22 people were killed and over 150 injured, after 13 coaches of the Utkal Express jumped the rails.

The three accidents come just days, after Piyush Goyal stepped in the shoes of Suresh Prabhu and took charge as Union Railway Minister in the recent Cabinet reshuffle.
