Pope to visit Myanmar

Rohingya people escape fresh gunfire at the Bangladesh Myanmar frontier near Rakhine on Saturday

Expressing the concern over the reports of renewed violence and attacks by terrorists in northern Rakhine State Myanmar, MEA said, "India is seriously concerned by reports of renewed violence and terrorist attacks in northern Rakhine State Myanmar".

Advocates for the Rohingya suggest many more civilians have died in army attacks on villages, but they have not given a total. Myanmar's security forces responded by launching counterterrorism operations against insurgents.

Over several decades, the government has made consistent efforts to erase the minority-Muslim Rohingya's historical ties to Rakhine state that date to the 8th Century A.D.by denying them basic human rights such as citizenship, access to education, among others. "The main goal is to ensure Myanmar can't accuse us of harbouring them to use against them", said the official.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh detained and forcibly returned 70 Rohingya to Myanmar, within hours after Myanmar troops opened fire on villagers fleeing the country, Bangladesh police sources said Sunday.

Roshida Khatun, 40, crossed into Bangladesh on Saturday morning along with more than 30 other Rohingya.

"First they burn, then they shoot, then it is more organised and they go and arrest people", she said adding she was receiving reports of properties ablaze in many different parts of the region.

Thousands of Rohingyas have sought to ford the Naf River and its canals separating Myanmar and Bangladesh and cross the land border.

Still, more than 2,000 Rohingya entered Bangladesh overnight through two points at Teknaf in Cox's Bazar district, said Jalal Ahmed, a local government official at the Kharangakhali border point.

Their most obvious rivals in the top half of the draw are Austria's Dominic Thiem and the mercurial Nick Krygios of Australia. I had hoped there would be a chance this season, but now that the draw is out, the best they can do is the semifinals.

The death toll from ongoing clashes between Myanmar's troops and the so-called advocates of the persecuted Rohingya Muslims has reached almost 100, as thousands of desperate Muslims recently entered the neighboring Bangladesh, fleeing from intensified crackdown on the minority by Buddhist mobs and security forces over recent attacks on police outposts.

Ashin Wirathu, a leader of a hard-line Buddhist movement, Ma Ba Tha, told the New York Times: "There is no Rohingya ethnic group in our country, but the pope believes they are originally from here".

In more recent months the group has become less publicly Islamic, changing its name to the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army.

Khatun told The Associated Press that she left behind her entire family along the border in Myanmar after she lost track of her whereabouts on Friday night.

A Muslim ethnic minority, the Rohingya belong to Myanmar's Rakhine State.

At least 104 people, including some 80 militants, have been confirmed killed. The attacks were also generally condemned by Western nations and rights groups, who also warned the government against violent retaliation. Arsa took advantage of the resentment by stepping up recruitment of members.

The Burmese army has been accused of carrying out extra-judicial killings of Rohingya Muslims in response to clashes with insurgents.
