Trump celebrates solar eclipse by looking up without special viewing glasses

President Trump Stares at Eclipse Without Glasses, Aide Yells 'Don't Look!'

As Blaine Friedlander wrote in The Post, the first rule of enjoying the eclipse is to never look directly at the sun without eclipse glasses because it could damage the eyes, advice that Trump's daughter Ivanka also gave her Twitter followers.

According to a White House Pool report: "At approximately 2:39, the President initially gesticulated to the crowd below and pointed at the sky".

Much of the nation focused on the event, the first total eclipse to cross the country in almost a century.

President Donald Trump took in the solar eclipse from the White House balcony, first looking up at the phenomenon without the necessary glasses to protect his eyes.

This is the first total solar eclipse to sweep the United States from coast to coast in almost a century, although I Washington experienced about 80 per cent coverage of the sun.

He'll face John Isner , who beat wild-card Jared Donaldson 7-6 (4), 7-5. "Very happy to be off the court", he said. The Australian, known for his fiery behaviour on the court, will be bidding to earn his fifth title of the year.

Then Trump put on special viewing glasses and watched for about 90 seconds.

"Don't look", one staffer yelled from the White House lawn.

In the lead-up to the total solar eclipse that just finished making its way across the entire country, Inverse and several other news outlets like it published countless stories that all tried to drive home the same point: don't look directly at the eclipse. "As he did so, one of the White House aides standing beneath the Blue Room Balcony shouted 'don't look'".

The president will address the nation tonight at 9 p.m.
