Usain Bolt, India's relay teams in action

Thunderclap over London: the superstar of sprint Usain Bolt has missed his farewell with the 100-m being deprived of a final world title by the bad, loved Justin Gatlin, income from a suspension of four years for doping and sacred under the jeers of the public.

Usain Bolt started the final countdown to his retirement by guiding Jamaica through to the 4x100m relay final at the World Championships.

This time, it was Gatlin doing the passing, and now he is a world champion in addition to a trivia question: Who was the last sprinter to win Olympic gold in the 100 before Bolt? Gatlin came from behind to finish in 9.92 seconds with team US sprinter Christian Coleman in second place at 9.94 seconds and Bolt was third with 9.95 seconds.

On the last day of his worldwide career, fans jostled for space to have a glimpse of Bolt at the warm-up arena, adjacent to the stadium and television cameras were fixed at him to have a shot of the towering Jamaican.

The woman who beat Felix at last year's Olympics, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, was far in the lead this time but inexplicably lost it when she looked at the big screen and lost her balance.

"There's a lot more decisions to be made in a shorter race".

An 11-time gold medalist at the World Championships Bolt has always been excited when it comes to running the relays.

Justin Gatlin, who many assume to be Bolt's arch-nemesis, thundered home ahead of the 6ft 5inch Jamaican, with his United States teammate Christian Coleman pipping Bolt to the line as well. "It doesn't change anything for me", Bolt said.

Closing birdie puts Denmark's Olesen atop PGA Championship
Jason Day has clawed his way back up the leaderboard midway through the opening round of the US PGA Championship in North Carolina.

In the women's heats, both nations are also through.

"I went to stay in Teddington because that's where my family are now and I was like "No, I need to get back to the hotel".

But first, Bolt and his Jamaican teammates must navigate the heat set for 10:55 a.m. (4:55 a.m. Jamaica time) and avoid another slip-up in a championship that has left questions swirling about Jamaica's spot as the world's ultimate sprinting conveyor belt. But the medal payouts are a pittance compared to decent endorsement deals: In 2016, Jamaica paid roughly $10,000 for each gold medal an athlete brought home.

"For me it's hard to be sad because of the energy I am getting from the crowd, I just feel happy and blessed", Bolt said in a trackside interview.

Yohan Blake, who was expected to be added to the team for the final, is doubtful at this point, after complaining of a pain in his leg following his 200m exit.

Germany clocked 42.34 seconds for the victory, well ahead of Jamaica, who crossed the line in 42.50. We have been training that relay, there were some camps.

The Netherlands, with 200-metre champion Dafne Schippers running the second leg, qualified on time.

Olympic champions United States won the first heat in a world leading time of 41.84 seconds, even in the absence of individual 100m champion Torie Bowie.
