Trolls force Google to cancel gender memo meeting

Dozens Of Female Employees Accuse Google Of Gender Discrimination

CEO Google Sundar Pichai said this during a girls" coding event just after Google cancelled a company-wide town hall meeting which had been scheduled to address the anti-diversity memo that claimed "biological differences' between men and women were responsible for gender gaps at the organisation. The memo had stirred a controversy both inside and outside Google. "But our Dory questions appeared externally this afternoon, and on some websites Googlers are now being named personally", Pichai said in the email.

Concretely, some workers had sent notices in the days prior to the event saying they feared for their online safety, given that some insiders had started leaking personal information to internet hubs that aligned with the views of former software engineer James Damore.

Google fired Damore on Monday.

Danielle Brown, Google's vice-president for diversity, integrity, and governance, also wrote to employees, telling them that the memo "advanced incorrect assumptions about gender".

Google must now grapple with possible lawsuits; a fired employee who's fast becoming a public figure; an ongoing debate over the limits of free speech; a surge of employees leaking information; and a struggle to protect employees as it becomes the latest villain for the alt-right.

According to Google's most recent diversity figures, 80% of its tech workforce and 75% of its leaders are men.

The town hall was meant to hear out employee grievances over a flare-up that has consumed Google for much of the week.

UN Secretary General urges Venezuelan government and opposition to relaunch negotiations
These are their disregard for the Constituent Assembly and the decision to only accept what the National Assembly authorizes. The judges convicted another mayor on Tuesday for failing to move against protesters during four months of political unrest.

As Business Insider notes, the town hall meeting was supposed to be held on Thursday, 4 p.m. PT. Milo Yiannopoulos of Breitbart posted photos of several pro-diversity Googlers to his Facebook page.

USA lawmakers in Congress have also urged Google and the whole tech industry to take a hard look at their diversity and inclusion policies, noting they could do better to bring more women and minority representation into the mix.

Damore, whom the Times said had worked at Google's search group, is now planning to sue his former employer for wrongful termination.

Damore has also filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board and has expressed interest in taking legal action against Google.

"People get offended because it goes against the left's ideology", Damore said during an interview on a conservative talk show on YouTube.

"I am a moderately conservative Googler", one employee wrote, "and I am and have been scared to share my beliefs".

"We are going to raise awareness about Google's one-sided bias and campaign against dissenting opinions and voices", Posobiec told the media on Thursday. "What is leadership doing to ensure Googlers like me feel invited and accepted, not just tolerated or safe from angry mobs?"
