Amazon acquires movie starring Cate Blanchett as Lucille Ball

The production will now put an eye out on who should play Desi Arnaz, the real-life husband of Ball who played Ricky Ricardo on I Love Lucy, the Cuban band leader in that 1950s landmark television series. Generally speaking, casting a screen legend like Cate Blanchett as another one named Lucille Ball seems like a smart bet. The couple met when Lucy was 28 and Desi was 23 while they were both working on set of the 1940 film Too Many Girls. I don't know who the flawless screenwriter for a project like this would be, but it strikes me that Sorkin probably isn't that person. She won four Emmys for the role.

There is no release date yet for Lucy and Desi, but judging from the talent attached to the film, Amazon will probably be doing an awards season push for the biopic.

It's unclear if any of it will be filmed in Ball's hometown of Celeron, N.Y., which famously replaced a "Scary Lucy" statue with a more flattering likeness last year and celebrates her birthday every year at the Lucy Desi Museum & Center for Comedy in nearby Jamestown.

Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots both top $300 million
There may not have been any grand-prize winners, but one MA player matched the first five numbers to bring in a cool $1 million. Powerball tickets cost $2 and can be played in 44 states, Washington DC, the US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

Among a myriad of other achievements made throughout her illustrious career, Ball became the first woman to run a major television studio, Desilu Productions, in 1962.

Blanchett has won two Academy Awards, and is now filming the film adaptation of the novel Where'd You Go, Bernadette? Amazon scooped up the rights to the project and tasked Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) to pen the script. A high profile actor, one such name mentioned as Javier Bardem, is being sought to play Arnaz. Yet what is known for sure is that the children of Ball and Desi Arnaz - Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr. - have signed off on the project and are co-producing it alongside Escape Artists' Jenna Block.
