Aston Villa 2017-18 player preview: Josh Onomah

Spurs talent Josh Onomah ‘expected to join Aston Villa on loan

Aston Villa are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Josh Onomah on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has linked up with Steve Bruce's side for the 2017/18 campaign, where he hopes to gain some much-needed first-team experience.

An impressive distributor of the ball, Onomah was successful with 78% of the passes that he attempted in the Premier League last season.

England youth global Onomah featured 10 times for Tottenham last season but made just five substitute appearances in the Premier League as he fell behind fellow academy graduate Harry Winks in the pecking order.

He heads here in bubbly mood after being an integral part of the England team which won the U20 World Cup this summer.

Venezuela's constitution rewrite is set to start Friday in the tense capital
Demonstrators defied a ban on protests set by Maduro that threatened up to 10 years in prison for violators. The election was held amid mass protests across the country that have already resulted in over 120 deaths.

Onomah is Bruce's sixth signing, following Johnstone, John Terry, Chris Samba, Glenn Whelan and Ahmed Elmohamady through the door.

Coach Mauricio Pochettino has previously been unwilling to send Onomah out on loan despite interest from several Championship clubs last season and pleas from the 20-year-old, who said last month: "I have wanted to [go on loan], but I trust the gaffer".

News of Onomah's signing went down well with the Villa faithful, with many believing that he will add the quality necessary to help the side secure promotion back to the top flight.

He has made 32 senior appearances for the North London club but has yet to establish himself as a regular in the starting line-up, with this loan move set to provide him with valuable regular playing time.
