On a rainy day, Philip's duty finally done

Prince Philip seen with Queen Elizabeth is saying farewell to public engagements retiring at 96

A spokesperson said that, though Philip's string of individual events has come to an end, "he may choose to attend engagements alongside the queen from time to time".

The British media is craving for the exclusive coverage of Royal News, especially the health news of both Prince Philip and the Queen who are in their 90s.

The Prince's final engagement was the 22,220th he has attended since his wife took the throne in 1952.

The parade will mark the end of the 1664 Global Challenge, which raises money for The Royal Marines Charity.

Royal Marines from around the globe have also been taking part in extreme events including a 34-mile swim underwater and a company of Royal Marines lifting more than 20,000 tonnes and running 10,000 kilometres.

Prince Philip's association with the Royal Marines dates back 64 years to June 2, 1953, when he was appointed Captain General in succession to the late King George VI, the Evening Standard newspaper reported.

Philip, who's the longest-serving royal spouse in British history, has carried out an astounding number of duties over the last six decades.

President Trump reportedly 'personally dictated' Junior's misleading Russian Federation statement
But within 24 hours, highly damaging revelations had emerged that made clear the meeting had been much more charged than that. Did Don Jr. brief the president on the meeting? He was right - or at the very least, they're trying to save him from himself.

The 96-year-old prince, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, hosted the closing of the Royal Marines' 1664 Global Challenge charity event in his capacity as ceremonial head of the force.

"Well you can't change the weather and you can't change the Prince", former Royal Marine James Ellard said, as he waited for the Duke to appear behind the gates.

In May, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Philip would no longer be involved in public engagements after August of this year.

The Queen, 91, will continue her public schedule.

The Queen, then Princess Elizabeth, and Philip's first joint engagement, post marriage, is believed to have taken place on December 16, 1947, when they gave an "Afternoon Party" at the Palace.

The royal couple are scheduled to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in November. Prince Philip was unexpectedly hospitalized during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, according to USA Today.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
