Dalit leaders arrested during press conference in Lucknow

Dalits who were on their way to Lucknow from Gujarat to express their anger were stopped and sent back from the Jhansi railway station yesterday

Indian media said the woman was attacked with acid for the first time in 2011, then in 2013 and again in March this year.

The woman, who can not be named for legal reasons, went into intensive care in hospital to be treated for burn injuries to her face and shoulder.

She has been admitted to a hospital after the latest attack.

Earlier on March 23, the woman was allegedly forced to drink acid by two men on-board a train near here. To a private news channel in Varanasi, he said, " Investigations are on. The armed constable responsible for her protection was in the hostel's waiting hall when the incident occurred.

"Has this attack really happened or are some people hatching a conspiracy to defame the state government", he questioned.

"We have already initiated a probe into it", Abhay Kumar Prasad, Additional director general of police, Lucknow said. The police said that those arrested had planned to demonstrate against the state government, which could have caused law and order problem. They were all taken not to the nearest police station but to Police Lines.

"There was a guard and some girls, who were there on the roof, when the incident took place but none of them saw anyone".
