Donald Trump questions impartiality of Russian Federation investigation chief Mueller

Trump suggests he was trying to keep FBI director honest

I can say that the people that have been hired are all Hillary Clinton supporters.

On Fox & Friends on Friday morning, Trump said that "when [Comey] found out that there may be tapes out there - whether it's governmental tapes or anything else, and who knows - I think his story may have changed".

Comey was the most visible figure in the investigation examining an alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 United States presidential elections and an alleged collusion of Russian officials with Trump´s campaign team.

Comey says any recordings that might exist would support his version that Trump asked him to pledge loyalty and urged him to drop the investigation into Trump's former national security adviser.

President Donald Trump suggested he was just trying to keep fired FBI Director James Comey honest with his cryptic tweet implying there might be recordings of their private conversations.

President Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion with Russian Federation, calling it a "witch hunt".

One week after the memo was disclosed, the Justice Department appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel to take over the investigation into contacts between Russian Federation and the Trump political campaign. There were no such tapes, and the president knew it all along.

International Yoga Day 2017: Devendra Fadnavis Celebrates With Farmers' Children
This International Yoga Day she posted a video on Instagram in which she was performing the attractive asana of Bakasana. Reports said in the United Arab Emirates, more than 15,000 people participated in the Yoga Day celebrations.

So when Donald Trump made the mistake of musing about "tapes", and left the door hanging open with his tweets, he once again put both his legal team and his White House staff in the very bad position of trying to explain his actions and contain their damage.

This is a first for the Trump presidency: the first formal presidential retraction of a presidential untruth.

Of course, the president can fire a director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for any non-corrupt reason, but if he does so after a rejected quid pro quo as Comey has publicly claimed that Trump did, that can trigger the woes Trump now endures. He also told trusted people about his concerns soon afterward, well before Trump fired him. According to a poll conducted by the Associated Press last week, 61 percent of Americans believe that Trump obstructed the investigation into his campaign's connections with the Russian government. Mueller, the somber-faced and demanding FBI director who led the bureau through the September 11 attacks, and Comey, his more approachable and outwardly affable successor, may be poles apart stylistically but both command a wealth of respect in the law enforcement and legal community. "Lordy, I hope there are tapes", Comey said of the possibility of being recorded. But Trump's offer to testify under oath was risky, as it could result in the president perjuring himself.

In the piece, Wittes recalled that Comey had told him at a lunch meeting that he sought to distance himself from Trump. So you never know what's out there, and I didn't tape and I don't have any tape and I didn't tape. Trump wrote on May 12.

Comey told a congressional panel that it was Trump's tweet suggesting the president made recordings of their conversations that spurred him to orchestrate leaks about his memos that documented the encounters.

He's brought trouble to his White House. Those days came and went without an answer.
