Democrats secretly met to plan the ouster of top party leader

Democratic Congressman Destroys The Lie That Democrats Are Obstructing Trump

Asked if the Democrats can take back the House with Pelosi atop the party, Richmond paused, then said, "Probably". Nor have they identified a challenger.

"We need leadership change", Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-NY) told CNN. Most notable was the appearance of Louisiana Rep. Cedric Richmond, the chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

"I think I'm worth the trouble, quite frankly", she concluded. He emphasized that the group "was a diverse group from an ideological, geographic and ethnic standpoint".

WASHINGTON (AP) - A dozen or so House Democrats want Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to go after a dispiriting loss in a House election in Georgia.

Democratic nominee Jon Ossoff had to do three things to win: mobilize and turn out Clinton voters; convince some Trump-voting Republicans either to back him or, more plausibly, stay home out of distaste for GOP nominee Karen Handel; and win about 60 percent of voters who had gone for Johnson or McMullin past year. With Jaffe addressing issues like single-payer healthcare and President Trump tweeting that he hopes the Democrats keep her, Pelosi's next primary competition could end up being her most challenging election yet.

Ossoff ran on a decidedly moderate platform with millions of dollars to back him up. Which was fine by the Democrats who thought they were going to pounce and pick one off.

In December, Pelosi stated that she doesn't think Democratic voters actually want a new direction, but now even Democratic lawmakers are starting to disagree with her.

Drew Hammill, a Pelosi spokesman, said she's done more than just raise money and that Pelosi is "without rival" as a legislative tactician.

"When it comes to personal ambition and having fun on TV, have your fun", she said. "I love the arena. I'm here to serve the caucus", he said.

Democrats supportive of Pelosi have long argued that even if she stepped aside, Republicans would demonize any new leader the party elevated.

United Kingdom chancellor, BoE chief stress Brexit perils
Mr Davis said Britain's negotiating position had not changed as a result of his Conservative Party's poor showing in recent elections.

Georgia's 6th shares numerous same characteristics as the districts that Democrats believe will pave their way to a House majority in 2018. "And usually they go after the most effective leaders".

It may not all be Nancy Pelosi's fault.

But after what happened on Tuesday night in special congressional elections in Georgia and SC, I'm beginning to think the Democrats are never going to get exhausted of losing.

President Trump's chaotic first five months in office have driven his popularity ratings down, leading some Democrats to see Americans as coming around to their way of thinking.

And Pelosi's fundraising prowess? Pelosi claimed that "if you're a Republican this is not good news for you".

Pelosi's potential successors have included former Rep. Rahm Emanuel - but he left the House to become Obama's chief of staff and later to run for mayor of Chicago. It was the last straw for some Democrats.

The top three House Democrats are now Pelosi, who is 77; Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer, who is 78; and South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn, who is 76.

Pelosi, for her part, addressed the controversy head on Thursday during a press conference in the Capitol, where she defended her leadership track record and practically taunted the critics calling for her removal. Georgia was one of the most reliable Democratic states barely more than a decade or so ago, and is now ruby red with pockets of Democratic strength.

"Obviously people are very concerned about where we are and they want to have a conversation about where we need to be", Rep. Tim Ryan of OH told reporters about why the group got together. Ryan, who challenged Pelosi last fall, said he has no interest in doing so again.
