Trump signs VA reform bill, completes campaign promise

White House: Trump to sign VA accountability bill on Friday

VA Secretary David Shulkin supports the measure.

President Trump signed a bill Friday that will make it easier for the Department of Veterans Affairs to fire employees, part of a push to overhaul an agency that is struggling to serve millions of military veterans.

"As you all know - all too well - for many years, the government failed to keep its promises to our veterans", Mr. Trump said, saying "we are just getting started" on major changes to the VA, one of his central campaign promises in 2016.

President Donald Trump signed a bill into law Friday that aims to hold employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs more accountable by providing whistleblower protections and making it easier to fire individuals for misconduct. It will help ensure our military men and women receive the quality health care they deserve.

The new law also gets rid of senior executives' right to appeal to the MSPB but replaces that process with an internal VA grievance procedure. It passed the Senate by a unanimous voice vote. "We've been working hard on this for years, so this was a great day for our country's heroes".

It's curtains for Google Play predecessor Android Market app store
From June 30, 2017, users having Android 2.1 and below will no longer be able to access or install apps from the Android Market . What that exactly means is open to interpretation, but at least it looks like Google isn't completely abandoning it just yet.

The bill was a rare Trump initiative that received Democratic support. It lowers the standard of evidence needed to fire employees.

The legislation gives the authority to appoint new medical directors at VA hospitals, something that was almost impossible to do in the past, the president said. "Establishing accountability is an important first step in fixing the toxic culture at the VA".

President Trump is holding an event at the White House today as he prepares to sign the Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act. "We look forward to continuing to work with this administration and both sides of the aisle to address the many challenges the VA still faces". Heller says this legislation is the product of strong bipartisanship in Congress. These bad employees are failing in their duty to serve our nation's veterans, many without disciplinary action, and something needs to be done.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a California Republican, called the bill signing "a significant step to reform the VA with a renewed goal and ability to serve our veterans". "Many veterans died waiting for a simple doctor's appointment".
