Paul George to leave Pacers following 2017 season, source says

NBA: Paul George's Future — Was Larry Bird Leaving Pacers a Clue?

This report would seem to follow naturally on the heels of George being denied All-NBA recognition following the 2016-2017 season, and therefore precluding IN from offering him the $200 million Designated Player Extension. George is the player the Pacers keep hoping to build their own title dreams around, dreams which haven't worked out.

We'll likely enter the National Basketball Association season with Paul George as a Pacer, but what about at the trade deadline?

George would sign a four-year max deal with the Lakers at $133 million that starts at around a $30.6 million salary in Year 1 before annual raises. They're holding the cards, but also face the biggest predicament. The Lakers would sooner trade Clarkson than waive him, but they could invoke the stretch provision on both Deng or Mozgov. So far, George hasn't said much publicly.

George said last week he expected to play out his contract with the Pacers in 2017-18, shooting down rumors that had him bound for the Cavaliers. By his second season in the league, George saw his playing time jump, with his scoring following suit, ballooning to 12.1 points per game.

Real Madrid celebrates 12th European Cup with fans in Spain
It was the culmination of a counterattack of breathtaking speed launched by Luka Modric and Toni Kroos . If somebody wins the Ballon d'Or and scores so many goals, obviously it's a big advantage.

The downside to this is that it's been reported by Woj; this means other teams are well aware of his plans, and the Pacers may lack leverage in any potential trade talks to Los Angeles or otherwise. Further, George let it be known that he would like to sign with the Lakers in free agency.

Pacers fans should start saying their goodbyes to Paul George.

Los Angeles has a few routes it can assess. Or they can move now and trade for the All-Star wing this summer.

It looks like George isn't going anywhere, no matter what the rumors are.
