Seven US soldiers were wounded Saturday by an Afghan soldier on a northern Afghanistan base during the second "inside attack" in a week against US forces awaiting the impending announcement of reinforcements by Pentagon.

The spokesperson confirmed that there were no deaths among members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation mission or United States troops, adding that an Afghan soldier (presumably the assailant) had been killed and another one injured. In March another insider attack killed three US soldiers.

The incident took place during a training exercise at around 2 p.m. local time at Camp Shaheen in Mazar-e-Sharif.

A coalition official told CNN that some U.S. military personnel were wounded and evacuated after what appears to be an insider or "green-on-blue" attack by an Afghan soldier.

Afghan officials also confirmed the attack and that the attacker had been shot dead.

NATO's Resolute Support later tweeted that seven US servicemembers were wounded and evacuated for treatment.

Will more United States troops make Afghanistan secure?
Bush's presidency - and its allies invaded Afghanistan on October 7, 2001 as part of Washington's so-called war on terror. It also the largest deployment of American military might by President Trump since he took office in January.

The violence comes just seven days after an Afghan soldier turned his weapon on his US counterparts in another region of Afghanistan, killing three soldiers and wounding another.

Earlier this month, the Taliban claimed responsibility for killing three U.S. soldiers in eastern Afghanistan.

Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the attack on Sunday. US soldiers have been wounded.

Dillon C. Baldridge, 22 of Youngsville, North Carolina - were killed June 10 when an Afghan soldier opened fire on them in Peka Valley, located in Nangarhar Province. The soldiers were assisting operations against the Islamic State in the restive eastern province of Afghanistan.

USA troops are also at risk in other parts of Afghanistan. The attack Saturday at Camp Shaheen left seven American soldiers wounded, according to officials with the NATO-led mission in the country. It said one Afghan soldier was killed and one wounded. The others held out against Afghan special forces that had responded to the attack, he said.
