Oakland triumphant as parade set to celebrate NBA's Warriors

Thursday will be parade day in downtown Oakland when the National Basketball Association champion Golden State Warriors take to the streets to meet their fans and keep the high fives high.

Coach Steve Kerr told KTVU-TV he was proud that the team came back from the heartbreak of losing last year's championship to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

At the rally, Green mocked James' contention that James had never played for a super team.

James teamed up with All-Stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat to win his first championship in 2012.

And it came a year after an epic disappointment when the team blew a 3-1 lead against those same Cavaliers despite the best regular season in National Basketball Association history.

Warriors players on buses passed Cahambing and his family twirling T-shirts over their heads and waving to the crowd as blue and yellow confetti rained down.

Hate it or love it, Kevin Durant is, at last, an National Basketball Association champion.

The impending loss of the Warriors to San Francisco was on the minds of some fans who came out to cheer, though many threw the word "dynasty" around and expected one more championship parade in Oakland next year.

Fans arrived hours before the start of the Thursday parade to get a prime spot along the route. The Warriors made one of the great playoff runs of all time.

Not only is Durant now an NBA champion, but after churning out 35.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists on upwards of 55 percent shooting from the field against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Durant also adds NBA Finals MVP hardware to his lofty collection.

Golden State Warriors fans are waking up early to secure a spot along the team's parade route in Oakland, California. One pregnant fan had painted the Warriors' logo on her stomach.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m.at Broadway and 11th street and proceed via Grand Avenue, Harrison Street, 19th Street, Lakeside Drive and Oak Street to the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center.

It was their second championship in three years.

The addition of arguably the most lethal scorer in National Basketball Association history then made Golden State nothing short of a superteam on paper and after a 83-16 record throughout the 2016-17 season, including a almost flawless 16-1 effort in the playoffs, the Warriors proved to be just that. Not if you ask Oakland.

The parade wound through downtown Oakland before the rally near Lake Merritt.
