Funeral fund raises thousands for Syrian refugee killed in London fire

Queen Elizabeth and Prince William thanked first responders and volunteers on Friday

A 24-year-old Syrian man who fled the violent civil war in his home city of Daraa has been confirmed as among those killed in the Grenfell Tower fire.

His brother, a 25-year-old business student, managed to escape the tower block and is said to be recovering in Kings Cross hospital.

After surviving the Syrian uprising, the crackdown by President Bashar al-Assad, a bombing campaign by ISIS and the unsafe passage across the Mediterranean Sea, Mohammed Alhaj Ali died scared and alone in a burning London apartment tower.

The first victim of the Grenfell Tower fire has been named as Syrian refugee Mohammad Alhajali. "I checked around and saw the flames". It called for a "thorough investigation" into building regulations, adding: "Mohammed came to this country for safety and the United Kingdom failed to protect him".

Of the success of the campaign, Ms Suleiman said: "I'm happy - but not happy that it had to reach this".

"Omar was found in the hospital and he is in stable condition but his brother Mohamed is still missing and his family do not know his whereabouts".

The brief statement also cited conditions of drug use and atherosclerotic heart disease, a buildup of plaque in the artery walls. Let's celebrate not doing them by doing them.' I got into trouble each time. "Can you really blame them?" he said.

Many people from the lower floors had a chance to escape the inferno, including some who were alerted by Muslim residents who were awake for their early-morning suhoor dinner - a meal eaten before fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. Friends who were close to the late refugee told Middle East Eye that he was in contact with them until 5am. "The thing is we came from Syria to be safe here and now we are dying here", he said. I was watching the flat.

Almashi, co-founder of the UK-based Syrian Solidarity Campaign, told the Telegraph that al-Hah Ali was trapped for two hours as firefighters were unable to reach above the 13th floor. We think it will never happen to us.

The brother of London fire victim Mohammed Alhajali has spoken of the heartbreaking moment he realised his sibling would die.

He was a pupil at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School and lived in Grenfell Tower with parents Genet Shawo and Paulos Petakle and brother Luca, who is three. I said "Why you didn't come, they brought us outside, I thought you were with us".

In a last text to his older brother after the two were separated, he wrote: "The smoke is getting in, the smoke is getting in, we are going to die, we are going to die".

Scores of people are feared dead after the massive blaze tore through Grenfell Tower in West London just after midnight on Wednesday.
