Erdogan warns Turkey opposition chief over 'justice march'

The U.S. Ambassador was summoned by the Turkish Foreign Ministry to inform him that the decision of the United States authorities is "wrong, biased and lacks legal basis". He said the department was still determining what, if any, additional steps would be taken.

Earlier arrest warrants were issued by USA law enforcement for 12 bodyguards of the Turkish president.

The New York Times reported last month that Dereci travelled to Washington with his cousin.

Two men have been arrested for their role in a violent altercation outside the Turkish ambassador's residence during a recent visit to Washington by Turkey's president, police said Wednesday. In another video, Mr. Erdogan can be seen watching the attack play out from a Mercedes-Benz sedan parked a few yards away.

The standoff, which comes after weeks of careful maneuvering by the State Department over the case, complicates an already fraught relationship between Washington and Ankara. The NATO allies previously clashed over a USA decision to arm Syrian Kurdish rebels fighting the Islamic State group in Syria.

America is now supplying arms to the Syrian Kurds to help them capture Raqqa, the capital of the Islamic State.

He is the first lawmaker from the secular CHP to be jailed in a government crackdown that followed last July's failed coup.

The UK Guardian quotes Center for Strategic and International Studies analyst Bulent Aliriza, who stressed the Turks are very serious about the matter and anxious the US relationship with Turkey could suffer significant damage if the warrants are allowed to stand. "If my bodyguards can not protect me then why am I bringing them to America with me?" "You can not seek justice on the streets, and Turkey is a state of law.it's not nice to complain about our country to the whole world by taking to the street".

Some of the protesters were holding the flag of a Syrian Kurdish militia, which Mr. Erdogan and his government say shows them to be supporters of P.K.K.

The Turkish foreign ministry officially "invited" the U.S. ambassador in for discussions after the announcement.

Turkey's official Anadolu news agency said they chanted anti-Erdogan slogans, and that the Turkish president's team moved in to disperse them because "police did not heed to Turkish demands to intervene".

The two camps were engaged in a brawl in which security guards accompanying the Turkish President were spotted, beating and kicking protesters.

According to ABC News, the State Department is considering barring those individuals from future entry into the US. The men will be unable to re-enter the United States but likely can not be prosecuted.

A second suspect who also seen in videos kicking a protestor, Virginia resident Sinan Narin, was charged with aggravated assault.

"We all saw the violence that was perpetrated against peaceful protesters, and it's not something that we're going to tolerate", said D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham.

Chief Newsham said that no staff members from the Turkish Embassy in Washington were implicated in the attack.

"Our focus is to work with law enforcement officials to ensure that those who are responsible for the violence are held accountable for those actions", she said.

The skirmish in May does not appear to have been an isolated incident. Eric Schmitt contributed reporting from Washington.
